Pool Safety Tips for Parents
Are Pool Toys Safe? Pool toy labeling and packaging indicate age restrictions, instructions for use, and injury warnings. Avoid swimming pool toys with sharp edges that can cut and small parts that can cause choking. Check for tightly constructed seams, punctures, and leaking seals and plugs; a water toy that deflates in the pool can suffocate small children. Beads used to weight some pool toys can escape through holes and become a choking hazard.

Life jackets should be positioned near the pool, and a telephone should be handy for emergencies. Drain wading pools when not in use - infants can drown in a couple of inches of water. Pool toys should never be left in the pool once the swimmers have departed. These colorful, sometimes whimsical rc boats, pool rafts, and water games will attract small children to the pool. Most city ordinances require secure fencing around swimming pools; locks on gates will deter neighborhood children from entering your property and prevent accidental drowning.
